~Reno/Sparks Best Bets for Last Week Of July 2008~

Wondering what to do for the rest of the month? Here are a couple of suggestions to help fill you summer   with fun and entertainment.

Today is Thursday, don't forget about the Sparks Hometowne Farmer's Market.

Tonight the recycling program is welcoming donations of used or new clothing from 4 to 9pm on Victorian Square.

Remember, there are only two more chances to go to this years market after tonight. Remember to  Park and Ride the Bus to help save time and gas. The bus runs every 15 minutes and picks you up at Reed High School on Baring Blvd in Sparks.

Reno Is Artown  ~ is almost over but there are still plenty of things to see and do. What is Artown? Artown is in its 13th year here in Northern Nevada and is a considered a festival of the arts.   You can enjoy a variety of art, music, crafts, dance, and food, of course!  Check out www.renoisartown.com for a complete list of scheduled events taking place from now until July 31, when the event will end.

Two highly recommend shows are:

Ringo Starr ~  He and  his band will be playing on July 25, at 8:00 p.m. at the Reno Ballroom. The Ballroom is located downtown Reno on Fourth and Center Streets. Tickets range in price from $50 to $95.

The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Dance Company~  Performing on Saturday, July 26, at 8 p.m. at the Pioneer Center for the performing Arts. Located downtown Reno on Virginia Street, tickets are on sale for $25 to $49.

Paddle, Pedal, Patter Kids' Triathlon  ~ On Saturday, July 26, 8:00 a.m. Kids age 12 and under are introduced to the sport of triathlon with kayaking, swimming, biking, and running courses that make their way around the beautiful Sparks Marina.  The Marina is located at 300 Howard Drive, Sparks.

Parents are encouraged to join their children for the bike ride, family and friends are welcome on the course to cheer on the participants.

For more information regarding sign-ups go to www.sparksrec.com .

S.W.I.N.G. "Fore" Miracles ~ This is a non-competitive golf tournament for children ages 8 -15 years. S.W.I.N.G. stands for Small, Wonderful Individuals Now Golfing "Fore" Miracles. This event is a fundraiser for the 2008 Children's Miracle Network of Nevada. The purpose is to raise money and awareness for programs that benefit children in need of medical assistance. All monies raised stays in Northern Nevada.

When and Where? This Saturday, July 26th, registration begins at 3:30p.m. at The Links at Kiley Ranch on Sparks Blvd., Sparks, Nevada.

The Library   ~ Libraries offer great summer fun for kids! They keep children entertained and are easy on the wallet. Most libraries offer summer programs for kids that not only encourage them to read, but also provide access to wonderful educational opportunities.

The Spanish Springs Library here in Sparks, offer programs for children that include reading clubs, puppet shows, story time, arts and crafts, and more.

This Saturday, July 26th at 10:30 a.m., The Spanish Springs Library will be playing "The Spiderwick Chronicles".  Popcorn will be provided.

Every Saturday morning the Library offers story-time for all ages in the children's wing. For times and more information log on to www.washoe.lib.nv.us . The Spanish Springs Library is located at 7100A Pyramid Highway, Sparks, Nevada.

~Go to a baseball game.~ The Reno Silver  Sox are playing July 29 and 30th at Peccolle Park located at the University of Nevada, Reno.  Tuesday the 29Th it's TWO FOR TUESDAY! Purchase any general admission and receive another ticket free!

Wednesday, July 30th is FAMILY NIGHT! Just $14 pays for admission for an entire family to receive general admission tickets. Stay after the game and play catch on the field and run the bases!

Last night at Peccolle Park, four Silver Sox players hit home runs to help the team beat Long Beach 8-3!

And finally, go see The Dark Knight ! The new batman movie is fabulous! Full of suspense, action, and a few surprises. Why not take the family to the Drive-In before summer is over. That is right, Sparks still has a Drive-In Movie Theater.  The Dark Knight is playing at the El Rancho Drive-In. The Drive-In is located on 555 El Rancho Drive in Sparks.

All movies are double features so plan on staying late! With four screens you will have at least 8 movies to choose from if you are not into Superheros!

Whatever you decide, I hope you have a terrific week!
