Fall is a perfect time to take of the little things that can make a big difference around the home, both inside and out. Most of the tasks listed below can be done yourself or with the help of a handyman or professional, licensed contractor. Taking the time to get these few things completed during warmer fall months will help save your time and money before the cold winter weather arrives.

Here is a checklist of a few things your might want to care of both inside and outside of your home ~ feel free to add to this list in the comment section below:

Reno Home Fall

Outside:

  • Clean the gutters, down spurts and other water collecting exterior home features ~ this allows the rain and snow melt to drain easily.
  • Ensure those down spurts empty at least 36 inches from the home ~ this will help prevent water damage to your home.
  • Inspect your roof for any potential leaks or damaged shingles ~ leaky roofs often occur because the homeowner has not idea shingles or tiles are missing. If you live in high wind area's you might want to inspect your roof on a regular basis.
  • Drain & winterize your hoses, faucets and sprinklers ~ frozen pipes are no fun and can cost homeowners thousands of dollars in repairs.
  • Store summer tools, furniture, grills and equipment ~ keep them safe and dry from the upcoming cold, wet elements.

  • Winterize your A/C unit. Make sure that debris is removed from around the devise and cover it tightly to prevent moister from getting to it.
  • Test your smoke detectors and CO monitors to be sure they are working. Replace batteries, vacuum the dust and be sure they are clean and working. Buy new fire monitors for each room of your home.
