The races are back this week for five exciting days starting Wednesday, September 10 to Sunday, September 14, 2008.

The Reno National Championship Air Races have been held just outside Reno, NV every year since 1964!
They are held each year during the second week in September at the Reno Stead Airport located about eight miles North of Reno, Nevada.
The Reno National Championship Air Races are considered to be the longest running Air Race in the world. This is the only place you can see, up close and personal, five days of air racing by six classes of aircraft.
During the five days of racing, six different classes of aircraft reaching speeds over 500 mph is by far the fastest-moving machines in motor sports! The Reno Air Races event also includes a world-class air show featuring top aerobatic performers, military and civil flight demonstrations, and a pit area with parked, retired aircraft for viewing. Here you can watch air race teams work on aircraft, browse any of the hundreds of participating vendors booths, and enjoy a wide variety of food and beverages.
Included in the six race classes are:
~Biplane: 3.18 mi. course with speeds up to 320 mph flown by predominantly aerobatic aircraft.
~T-6: 5.06 mil. course with speeds reaching 230 mph match racing for unmodified T-6 Texan aircraft, the USN SNJ versions, and Canadian Harvard variants.
~Formula One: 3.12 mi. course with speeds reaching 250 mph. Aircraft competing must be equipped with a stock 200 cubic in Continental 0-200 engine with fixed propeller and fixed landing gear.
~Sport: 6.37 mi. course with speeds reaching up to 350 mph consisting of commercial kit-built aircraft.
~Jet: 8.38 mi. course with speeds exceeding 450 mph consisting of match racing for the Czech Aero Vodochody.
~Unlimited: 8.48 mi. course with speeds exceeding 500 mph with aircraft competing such as the North American P-51 Mustang, the Hawker Sea Fury, and the Grumman F8F Bearcat.
Schedule of Events:
In general, activities begin around 8:00 a.m. each day with Biplane and formula One Class Races. Unlimited Class races usually occur during the afternoon. The last event of the day usually ends around 4:30 p.m. For a detailed schedule of events click here.
Event Parking and Shuttle Service:
From 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday there will be shuttle service to the Reno Stead Airport from various Reno and Sparks sites, with return service from the airport at 4:30 p.m.
Shuttles operate in both directions between Reno and Sparks and the Stead Airport between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day Thursday through Sunday. Between 1 to 6 p.m. there is only one-way return service from the airfield to Reno and Sparks. Click here for detailed times and pick up locations.
Parking at the event is $5 per day for autos and RVs and is available on a first-come first-served basis South of Echo Avenue between Stead Blvd. and Military Road. There is free shuttle service between the parking lots and the main gate. No overnight parking is allowed.
