Nevada Day Facts & Closures

Nevada Day Facts & Closures October 28, 2011

When is Nevada Day?

Nevada became a state (admitted to the Union) October 31, 1864, so Nevada Day is October 31st of each year. However, with the passage of AB396 by the 1997 Nevada State Legislature, Nevada voters, on November 3, 1998 advised the 1999 legislature they wanted to celebrate Nevada Day on the "last" Friday in October beginning in 2000. The legislature agreed and now we celebrate Nevada Day on its new day, the last Friday in October.

Nevada Day SoldierNevada Day is presently a state holiday recognized on the last Friday in October with the parade on the Saturday following.

This year Nevada Day will be observed Friday, October 28, 2011 and the Nevada Day Parade will be held Saturday, October 29, starting promptly at 10:00am rain or shine. The parade happens in our State Capital, Carson City!

The theme for our 2011 parade is "Nevada's Great OutdoorsEnjoying ". This is our annual coming together to celebrate our heritage and the founding of our great state!

Now, more that a century old, Nevada Day and its many activities include: the parade, numerous contests, arts, music, and other family-oriented activities is un-equaled anywhere in the United States.

Nevada Day is more than just a parade! It is Nevada's Heritage Celebration, a gathering of community spirit on the last week of October to salute our state's past and look ahead to its future.

The Nevada Day holiday will change a few businesses schedules on Friday so you will need to plan a head. Here is a short list of businesses that are closed and a few that will remain open:

State Offices: Closed

Federal Offices: Open

Nevada Day Meadow

County Offices: Closed

NAR Homeownership Matters Bus Tour Is Coming To Reno!

NAR Homeownership Matters

Bus Tour is Coming to Reno

REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative

Thursday, October 26, 2011
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The Summit Mall Reno
13925 South Virginia Street

Realtors, their clients, home owners, home buyers and those interested in home ownership are invited to join in the excitement at the  Summit Mall Reno from 10 a.m. – noon on Thursday, October 27th to hear from local leadership, plus state and local politicians regarding the future of the housing market and the issues currently facing the market today.

In March 2011, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR) leadership team put together a mult-city  bus tour to help educate the public on the many benefits of home ownership. They also encourage those with questions about the current housing market to attend.

Clip Art Green
You will also have the opportunity to meet with officials to discuss their concerns and learn more about the issues that may affect their ability to buy, sell or own a home in the future. I think this is a terrific event sponsored by the NAR.

Oftentimes the news and media paint a depressing picture for home ownership and of the current housing market.  Their negative  numbers and doom and gloom coverage seems to discourage home ownership. The Bus Tour is a positive way to reinforce home ownership. It is also a great way to find out what changes are being made to help distressed homeowners.

Reno and Sparks residents are encouraged to attend this event to find out why home ownership still matters! I hope to see you there!
