Here are a few market statistics for homes sold during the months of December 2009/2010:

Clip Art House Sold

Single Family Homes Sold in Sparks for December 2010 = 146

Single Family Homes Sold in December 2009 = 146

Medium Sold Price in December 2010 = $155,000

Medium Sold Price in December 2009 = $175,000

Days On The Market in December 2010 = 110

Days On The Market in December 2009 = 92

Sparks NV Short Sale Properties: Of the 146 single family homes sold in Sparks during 2010, 46 homes were short sale properties. The medium sold price was $154,550. Short Sale properties were averaging 156 days on the market.

There were 46 short sale properties sold this same time during December 2009. The medium sold price during that time period was $162,000. The average time spent on the market was 167 days.

Sparks NV Bank Owned Properties: There were 50 bank owned properties sold in December 2010. The medium selling price for single family bank owned property was $133,950 and spent an average of 95 days on the market.

During the same time period in 2009, there were 52 bank owned properties sold in December. The average list price was $162,500 and lasted 65 days on the market.

Sparks Home

The Sparks Real Estate Market seems to be holding steady from 2009 to 2010. The number of units sold are consistent with last years single family homes sold.

The absorption rate has halted its increase and is remaining steady for the short term. This signals that demand/supp;y realities are not changing significantly.

It is still a great time for Nevada home buyers to purchase. Home prices are low and inventory is high. Interest rates are still low and Nevada has many first time home buyer mortgage programs to choose from.

Local Schools And Businesses Get Creative Decorating Christmas Trees in Sparks NV

"Lights of Kindness" presented by Think Kindness at the Outlets at Legends in Sparks!

Lights of Kindess

Washoe County Students from different schools, High School Choir and Theater groups, Sparks locally owned and operated businesses and Legends merchants got creative this year for the "Lights of Kindness" holiday event.

Organized by the non-profit organization called Think Kindness, this event is raising money that will stay with Reno and Sparks charities. The folks behind this organization was able to get over 75 trees donated from The Dolan Automotive Group and  100% of money raised will be kept and donated to local charities.

Each tree has been uniquely and beautifully decorated and is ready for your vote. In order to vote, a $5.00 ticket must be purchased. As mentioned earlier, 100% of the proceeds go toward local charities. At the conclusion of the voting, up to 20 trees will go up for auction. The winners of each tree will be given the option of keeping the tree or donating it to a family in need.

So if you are looking for an inexpensive way to contribute to those less fortunate this holiday season, drive on over to the Outlets at Legends at the Sparks Marina.

December 10 - 15, 2010 at the Legends Mall. Check out the "Holiday Forest Of Trees" and vote for your favorite. For $5.00 vote, why not spend $10 and vote for your top two favorites.

The Toy Story themed tree got my vote. (Toy Story 3 is amazing if you haven't seen it yet!) If more traditional trees are more your style, don't worry there are at least 74 other trees to view and vote on. With so many tress to look at  be sure to plan your day with enough time to vote and shop!

Legends at the Sparks Marina is a wonderful outdoor mall in Sparks, Nevada. If you haven't had the chance to see one of Sparks' newests places to shop, now is a great time to head on over and get your holiday shopping done!

Spanish Springs Library 

Spanish Springs has a terrific community library! Packed full of books for leisure reading and resource tools that are great for school projects.

 Located in Sparks, Nevada, it is easily accessible allowing our  Spanish Springs neighbors to spend countless hours taking advantage of the many free activities and resources offered here.

As with countless public libraries everywhere, the Washoe County Library System offers FREE library cards! Simply speak  to any librarian or visit www.washoecountylibrary.us for specific card requirements. A library cardwill give you access to materials at all 12 Washoe Country Libraries!

If you haven't visited a library recently, you may be surprised to find  today's libraries are much more than just books. They not only have a full range of print materials available,  they also have books on CD, computers, downloadable audio books, DVD's, electronic databases, home schooling materials, Free eBooks, Internet access, music CDs, newspapers, magazines, software, video games, videos.

Spansih Springs LibrarySome of the great benefites of the Spanish Springs  library is the wonderful children's reading center and many "free" activities that is available to them.

For instance, Family Storytime, a great childrens event,  is offered on each Monday at 10:30a.m. Stories are selected for children aged 3 -6, but all ages are welcome.

Wee Read Storytimes are offered on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. This session includes stories, songs and rhymes,  music and movement.

The Spanish Springs Library also has a Book Club that meets once a month, a Chess club, a movie matinee, scrapbooking and knitting group and a community art wall where local artists display their work. If you are an artistl, you are welcome to display your work of art as well.

The Spanish Springs Public Library is your neighborhood resource center. Use the convenient drive thru to drop off or pick up pre-order books. Check out books for three weeks with your library card. Renew materials for an additional three weeks by using the library website.

Library Group

 Library hours can and do change frequently so be sure to check online if you haven't visited recently.

 Currently closed on Fridays and Saturdays but open on Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00pm, Mondays from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Tuesdays from noon to 8:00pm, Wednesdays from noon to 8:00pm and Thursdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm.

Your local library provides so much information it would be a shame not to take advantage of all  they offer.

~Registration for the 2009 Spanish Springs Cal Ripken Baseball League~

The Spanish Springs Cal Ripken Baseball League is officially in its 2009 season and registration for youths ages 4 years old to 12 years old is right around the corner!

If you live in Sparks, Spanish Springs or Wingfield Springs, your child is eligible to play on the Spanish Springs Cal Ripken  Baseball League.

There will be two options for registering for the 2009 baseball season:

1) In person~ Come to any of the scheduled sign-up dates and complete a registration form.

  • If new to league, include a copy of child's birth certificate and a proof of residency, such as a power bill.
  • Make your check or money order payable to Cal Ripken Baseball and mail to:

Registration Fees

NOTE:   League age is determined by the age of the player as of April 30, 2009.

Majors (10,11,12), AAA (9,10,11,12) AA(7-10)                             $125 per child (after Feb. 7th, $150)

  • All Sign-ups received on or before January 15th will be given a $10.00 discount.
  • All Sign-ups received after February 7th will be charged a $25.00 late fee.
  • Receive an additional $10.00 discount for each sibling.

Major, AAA, AA Tryouts

Who: All players moving up a division or new players are required to try out to play.

Where: Eagle Canyon Fields on Eagle Canyon Parkway in Sparks, next to Shaw Middle School.

When: Saturday, February 28, 2009 or Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Schedule:

11 & 12 year old players from 9 to 11 a.m.

9 & 10 year old players from 12 to 2 p.m.

6, 7, & 8 year old players from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Please Note:

  • The only players exempt from tryouts are T-Ball and Rookie players.
  • No sing-ups will be accepted after February 14, 2009.
  • Players will be placed in the appropriate divisions based on ability not age.

Spanish Springs Cal Ripken Baseball

 

Cal Ripken Baseball in Spanish Springs in fast approaching the end of another great season. We are in our fifth week of play. I say we because my son, Alec, plays for the Astro major team.

This year, nearly 600 children signed up to play ball. Boys and girls from ages 4 to 13 can play in this league. This season there are 14 T-Ball teams, 12 rookie teams, 11 minor teams and 7 major teams.

Currently, the City of Sparks and the league are building new fields for the kids to play on. According to the league president, Jeff Mckusker, the fields should be finished in July 2008. They will be located on Eagle Canyon Parkway. A great location in Spanish Springs. The kids and thier parents won't have to travel far to play and have a great time.
