The 11 Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 in Reno, Nevada. About 5,000 people showed up to race despite the cold, windy weather! If you raced on Sunday and would like to know your results, you can find out here how you did!
I raced again this year with "Team Tig Ole Bitties!" We doubled our team from last year and are looking for new members to race with us in 2010! Feel free to call me, Terrie at 775-846-5424 to join our team or go to www.komennorthnv.org.

A brief bio of the Susan G. Koman Race For The Cure:
The Northern Nevada Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to improve the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community.
They join more than a million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer.
Through events such as the Komen Northern NevaUp to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stays in our region. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
The Northern Nevada Affiliate in its 10-year history has invested nearly $2 million in community breast health programs in northern Nevada.
The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure was a huge success in Northern Nevada! Over 5,000 people showed up to support the foundation to help save lives and find a cure for Breast Cancer! You can help support and donate to this cause any time of the year. Simply visit the Susan G. Komen website to find out how you can participate!

My family has been involved in numerous "Race for the Cure" events.
So glad you are too!
I went to the results of the race list, and I couldn't find you in there.
How did you end up?
Let us know!
I knew someone would look the results up! I registered as a participant but did not register for the timed race! I ended up running with Tayona and we finished the 5K in 31 minutes! We were very proud of our accomplishment!
Next year you will see my results posted Craig!!
Hey, you were a winner just for showing up.
Great job Terrie!
I do the treadmill because I like to get my 3 miles out of the way before the sun comes up but wish I had someone close to run with. 31 minutes! Wow.
Terrie - My hat goes off to you and all the others that contribute to the cause. I myself have been drinking (Green Tea) for over 20 years because green tea has over 150 different (Antioxidants) that help our bodies from getting cancer.
The Chinese have been drinking Green Tea for 4000 years, it has to be good for you!
Just my 2 cents worth!
VB ;o)
Hi Terrie~ It is hard to believe how many men and women are affected by breast cancer. Early detection is best and finding a cure would be even better. Thanks for racing for us. You all look so cute in your boas!
such a worthy cause. A couple of years ago my husband childhood crush (Olivia Newton John) did a benefit concert for the Susan G Koman cause and I was more than happy to take him and support a worthy cause in the process. That night she also donated all proceeds from sales as well.
My sister in law (who is the same age as me and we graduated the same year) battled breast cancer this year. She is a health nut and I am telling you this can happen to ANYONE! On behalf of my family, thank you for your support! (ps she said no pictures when she was out here this past week but she is on the far right side of my birthday post on Sunday, she's embarrassed of her head but we all think it's adorable!!)
Craig ~ Thanks again!!
Susie ~ So that is how you stay in such great shape! Running with a group of people is easier than running on the treadmill, I think. You tend to go a lot faster and are not so focused on your time and when you are going to finish!
Robert ~ I need to start drinking green tea! You hear such amazing things that it does for the body! I should make that part of my 2010 resolutions...I am such a huge coffee drinker I will have to switch over slowly. Thank you for your 2C!
Vickie ~ It is crazy the amount of people that are affected with breast cancer. October is a great month to get involved to help support and raise money for this cause!
Tammy~ I bet you and your hubby had a great time seeing Olivia Newton John! And how great is it that she donated all of her proceeds to this cause.
Renee~ I hope your sister-in-laws is now cancer free and is on her way to a long and happy remission! I know so many people who have family members who suffer breast cancer! It really is scary to think we really do not know what is the cause and how to prevent it!
Oh my gosh Terrie! I love this post! You have to pull me into this next year! Maybe we can even do an ActiveRain thingy! I would love to do this and that would give me a little extra oomph to lose some leftover baby weight!
Christianne ~ You got it! We are looking for new members to add to our team! And truthfully, we are not crazy about the team name and Amanda and Tayona are AR members so we could try to do something with AR.....hmmm...we will have to plan that one out. We need to design a cool Tshirt as well.
Have a great weekend!
Save the Ta Ta's! Hurray for Team Tig ole Bitties. 5000 people inspire me SO MUCH. My bald baby sister is now 1 year past getting the diagnosis. I pray every day for a cure. PS you look great in pink.
OK, me again...Sparks is only about three hours up the hill from Sacramento....If you really do want another warm body on your team, I would love to join you. ( I will need about 1 year to train)
Kathleen ~ We would love you to have you on our team! I think there will be one or two other ActiveRainers on our team next year! yeah, I am so excited.
How is your sister and your family holding up? One year, is she finished with treatments?
Thanks Terrie, I will count on it! Little sister has two more surgeries, but she has handled everything with the grace and determination of an Irish warrior. Thank you for asking.
Terrie - Great post for a worthy cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One of our agents is a breast cancer survivor and she was lucky because they caught it early.
