~Bacon~It's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore~

Chocolate Covered Bacon?

It just sounds wrong! Chocolate covered bacon?

But according to one candy maker in Santa Cruz, CA it tastes just right!

Chocolate covered bacon is being sold at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Amusement Parks in Santa Cruz, CA. Many chef's are trying to come up with new recipes to push the boundaries these days and it looks like this one is right on the cutting edge! Yuk!

Perhaps this is how the makers of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups  started out. Peanut butter and chocolate? No Way! And look how that turned out. Reeses Peanut Butter Cups are one of the most popular candy bars on the market today.

This  kind of reminds me of something here on ActiveRain. Real Estate Agents are now Food Critics? What?  Write about our favorite restaurant, critique local boutiques! What about the latest sales reports and the latest Real Estate trends. With the launch of The New Localism and the Land Rush  this week, members here on ActiveRain are scrambling to come with new ways to write about our local areas.

It all sounds crazy, but if Localism ends of being anything like peanut butter and chocolate, it will be a very, very, good thing!

But Chocolate Covered Bacon? Still not convinced on that one yet!

Hi Terrie -- we had many adventures at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, but never had chocolate covered bacon.  Strange concept, but then look at the source (maybe it's sprinkled with kelp, too?) -- definitely a fun place to go.

I'm trying to imagine how this would taste and the cholesterol count. Didn't Ben&Jerry do a bacon flavored ice cream?

Terrie - been to the Boardwalk many times (love the bingo ball game), thanks for sharing this (questionable) new snack!  Localism is a great way to focus on everything that's fun and unique in your area - I think the new Localism is going to encourage all of us to look around more, take more pictures, and do more to highlight the "feel" of a place.

In my mind I cannot get very excited about mixing chocolate with meat, It just does not click

Terrie, I've thought about the chocolate and bacon combination all different ways and it's still a no for me.  Interesting, but no.

Terrie- you go first ;-)  If you say it's good just put some in a box and send it to Titusville.  Better pack it in ice - it's really, really hot right now.  This was amusing, thanks.  Have a super weekend.

Terry - Santa Cruz is a fun place!! Kelp? You just never know!

Debbi - Bacon flavored ice cream? Never heard of it and never want to try it either.

Penny- Thank you for your thoughts on Localism. I agree it will make us look at things in a different way when we go out now. But it should serve as a great tool to attract more people to our sites.

Steve - I love chocolate and would never mix it with meat! Yuk!

Gary - A no for me as well!

Gail - No you go first! It is actually hard to imagine the taste, isn't it.

Yvette - I totally agree with you, GROSS! Thanks for stopping by.

I saw them do this on one of those cooking shows.  Can you say "heart attack waiting to happen"?

Hi Terrie,  I have been trying to find this stuff.  I wanted to get it as stocking stuffers last Christmas.  Rachel Ray had it on her show and says it is to die for.  Since I usually love everything all her recipes, I thought "how bad can it be"  Sweet and salty all tied into one.  I did notice at the bookstore the other day, chocolate and jalopenos.  I was told from the workers it was good,  not sure about that one.

Michelle~ Really? I missed it on the Rachel Ray show. I think I like your idea of giving it  as stocking stuffer gifts. I will look and see if I can find the vendor in Santa Cruz who sells it. I will let you know.
