~The Caughlin Ranch House~

This historic home built in 1851, located at the corner of Mayberry Drive and McCarran Boulevard in Reno, Nevada, is a two-story mansion that was originally constructed in Virgina City, Nevada and moved to its present location amid acres of open space in 1901. It was the home of Nevada Pioneer Crissie Caughlin.
Today, the home is a landmark for Southwest Reno. The Caughlin Ranch House has a museum-like quality without being stuffy. The house received the City of Reno's Historic Preservation Award for a Residential Structure in 1997.
This year the Nevada Blue Devil's Youth Baseball organization will be holding their annual Beer & Wine and Silent Auction Fundraiser to help support, not only the organization, but monies raised will also go toward their annual Blue Devil's At Risk Shopping Event, which will benefit The Head start Program in Northern Nevada.
The Head Start Program is a federally funded child development program for very low income youth children, children with disabilities and their families. The program was founded in 1965 as part of America's "War on Poverty." Their mission is designed to prepare low-income, pre-school-aged children for success in school.
Lyle Walters, a local baseball player and coach, started the Blue Devil's Traveling Organization in 2001 to prepare youth baseball players for high school and beyond. The Blue Devil's began with only one team and they now have six teams that attend local tournaments and travel to California and beyond, every month for tournaments.

Each year Lyle gets together with the Head Start Program and organizes a shopping spree just before Christmas for a group of kids who are part of this program. Each child will receive $100 to spend on what ever way they wish. Lyle, along with his Blue Devil players, take the kids shopping, help them pick out items they want and need. Of course, as with most children, they will not only shop for themselves, but pick out gifts for siblings and parents as well.
The children in the Blue Devil's Organization are an amazing group of young people who are trying to represent our community through hard work, commitment and respect. They practice several times per week both outside and in their winter facility and are working hard to become a competitive force in youth baseball.

This is a GREAT event! Hope they have a wonderful turnout!!
Thank you Teresa! Last year was a huge success and we are hoping it will be again this year!
There's something really special about old homes... you can just feel the history, can't you?
Margaret ~ You are right about the feel of older homes! This is one of the few really old (100 years old is considered old for Nevada) restored here in Northern Nevada. So I was really happy to be able to take a tour of it before the benefit this weekend. The owners are going to have the outside x-mas lights up so I am sure it will appear even more beautiful.
